Ten thousand trees are to be planted in Tobago between June 5 and 15.

This is the aim of the Division of Agriculture to return lands in Tobago, to pristine beauty.

Agriculture Secretary Hilton Sandy said last week that the National Action Programme to combat land degradation was important more so to Tobago.

He said Government must assist in land management.

The National Action Programme to combat land degradation in Trinidad and Tobago is an integrated framework for addressing the physical, biological and socio-economic aspects of the process of land degradation.

People are harvesting lands without proper care, bush fires and irresponsible cutting down of trees continue and contribute to flooding in low-lying areas.

Chief Secretary Orville London said there was a lot of work to be done since land degradation could affect Tobago environmentally and economically.
